The Hofstra Pride wrestling team began its season on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a tournament held in Edinboro, PA.
After a fifth place finish at the CAA’s, Hofstra University wrestling was fortunate enough to send two members of the squad, sophomores P.J. Gillespie and Ben Clymer, to Omaha, Nebraska for the 2010 NCAA Championships. There was a possibility of a third member making the trip to Omaha on March 18-20, but senior Jonny Bonilla-Bowman was sidelined with an injury that kept him out of the tournament.
The final week of the Hofstra wrestling team’s regular season was a busy one, as they matched up against three tough opponents in three different states over a six-day period.
Last Saturday the Hofstra Wrestling Team ventured off the Island to take on not one but two tough opponents. First, the Pride traveled over 200 miles to Binghamton University to match-up against the Bearcats before driving 50 miles further north to challenge 7th ranked Cornell University later that day.
Throughout winter break, Hofstra Wrestling stayed extremely busy taking on top-level competition. Between December 29 and January 31, the Pride sent five wrestlers to the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, NC, participated in the CAA Conference Duals and in six non-conference head-to-head meets, including face-offs with third-ranked Ohio State and number 17 Missouri.
The Hofstra Wrestling Team began their second month of competition in the state of Nevada, attending the Cliff-Keen Las Vegas Invitation, a 42 team event that featured grapplers from everywhere from California to Rhode Island. The Pride entered the tournament with three wrestlers (Jamie Franco, Ryan Patrovich, and Ben Clymer) in favorable seeds and seven men taking the mat overall.
Coming off of their season-opening tie against the University of Buffalo, The Hofstra University Wrestling team stayed busy over the last two weeks with the he North Carolina State Open as well as the Northeast Duals.
