The Student Government association opened up the gallery at a Nov. 7 senate meeting to the director of Dining Services so he could take complaints and compliments about Lackmann and answer questions.
Senators harped on prices and long waits for food and at the register, but expressed satisfaction with daily specials and a plan for a new ice cream station in the Student Center Café.
Eisa Shukran, the director of Lackmann Culinary Services at the University, said he is waiting on the proper refrigeration equipment, but expects to open the ice cream station in a couple weeks. Once the ice cream stand opens, Shukran said he is considering leaving the new station and Juice Event open until midnight or later for students with nocturnal habits.
Shukran mentioned other plans and ideas he had, which were well received by the senate. Lackmann is considering moving the Student Center sushi stand to the larger pasta location, according to Shukran.
The senate became excited when Shukran mentioned, “maybe taking Sbarro’s out all together.” He said he was considering replacing Sbarro’s with something along the lines of a Quizno’s, but added, “It’s just an idea.”
Shukran took notes of suggestions like extending the hours breakfast is offered, and broad complaints as well as very specific grievances such as the price of a croissant being different in one location than another and Kobrick’s Coffee allegedly closing early.
“If you come across any problems or issues, ask for the manager,” said Shukran in response to complaints of rude employees. He cited that each dining area has a photograph of the manager on the wall for the purpose of being able to easily identify who is in charge of the station.
Shukran said renovations are in the works at the Netherlands “cafeteria as well as the dining area.”
The director’s visit to the SGA came the same week that Lackmann is asking students to complete surveys on their satisfaction with campus dining.
