New Cassel-Two detectives observed a woman selling counterfeit DVDs in New Cassel on Oct. 20. Wen Li Wand, 35, of Flushing was arrested and found to be in possession of 175 DVDs.
Baldwin-A 52-year-old female was robbed in Baldwin on Oct. 19 by two male subjects. She was in her driveway on Linkwood Drive when the subjects pulled on the strap of her handbag and poked her in the face with a handgun. The strap of the bag broke, and the subjects fled in a tan four-door sedan.
Elmont-An Elmont man was arrested on Oct 21. for stealing $24 from a poor box at the St. Boniface Church. Edward Vaiana, 51, had been caught stealing from the box in the past, and was banned from entering the church.
Lakeview-On Oct. 21, a pedestrian walking on Lehman Road in Lakeview was robbed. The assailant, a black male, approximately 6-feet tall wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie, struck the victim over the head. The victim reported hearing a gunshot.
Hempstead-A Hempstead man was arrested on Oct. 23 after robbing a 7-11, located on Fulton Avenue. Martin Pena, 47, asked the store clerk for money. After receiving five dollars, he produced a knife and demanded more money. Pena also removed beer and ice cream from the store refrigerator.
Inwood-Two males, ages 20 and 40, were robbed on Oct. 22 in Inwood. Four unknown male subjects confronted them and demanded their money. The subjects knocked the victims to the ground, assaulted them with their fists and feet, and fled with a cell phone and keys taken from the victims. The subjects are described as male, black, wearing dark clothing and black bandanas over their faces.
Uniondale-On Oct. 22, 45 firefighters from the Uniondale Fire Department responded to 223 Laclede Avenue for a fire. The fire caused moderate damage to the house and took 20 minutes to extinguish. Detectives report that one person occupying the house was fatally injured and was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center. The fire is considered non-suspicious at this time.
-Third Squad detectives reported the arrest of a Hempstead man for a burglary that occurred on Oct. 24 in Uniondale. The suspect, Jamar Parker, 22, entered Profit Center Software and removed cash and a gift card from a female victim’s pocketbook. A witness observed Parker with the proceeds in his hand. As he attempted to flee, the victim’s co-workers stopped him. The subject was also wanted for an incident at the Shelter Rock School where he allegedly stole cash, a debit card and credit cards from three women’s pocketbooks.
-A Uniondale man has been missing since Oct. 16, according to the Special Services Squad Missing Persons Section. Stephen Taggert, 53, of Uniondale, was last seen at his residence at Webster Street. Taggert is a white male, 5-feet 8-inches tall and approximately 180 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a gray/maroon flannel shirt, dark sweatpants, a blue blazer and a tan baseball cap. He has a distended lower abdomen, suffers from diabetes, walks hunched over with short steps, has autistic tendencies and the mentality of a five-year-old, according to police. Detectives request the assistance of the public in their search and ask anyone with information to call 516-573-5370.
Roosevelt-On Oct. 21 in Roosevelt, First Precinct police officers responded to a call of shots fired. The body of Kail Ferro, 17, of Queens, was discovered in the vicinity of First Place, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound. The victim is described as male, black and approximately 20 years old.
-A Roosevelt man was arrested on Oct. 24 for kicking down the door of an apartment and attacking the residents with a knife. One victim wrestled the knife from the assailant, Jose B. Cruz, and stabbed Cruz numerous times during the struggle. Cruz was admitted to the ICU at an area hospital for his injuries.
Hicksville-Jennifer Leonard, 48, of Wyandanch was arrested in Hicksville on Oct. 23 for grand larceny. According to detectives, Leonard entered the jewelry department of Macy’s and pried open a jewelry case with a screwdriver. She removed sixteen boxes of jewelry, valued at $5,350. Leonard exited the mall with the jewelry and was stopped by mall security guards who detained her until the police arrived.
East Rockaway-Fourth Precinct police officers responded to a call that a man with a gun was inside a Wendy’s on Oct. 21. Officers found the subject inside the fast-food restaurant, located on Ocean Avenue in East Rockaway. The defendant, Jo An Pointer Perdomo, 19, of Oceanside fled from officers on foot. Perdomo jumped into a waterway adjacent to the E. Rockaway town dock. After several minutes of treading water, Perdomo complied with police directives to exit the water. He was transported to the South Nassau Community Hospital for possible hypothermia. Marine Bureau divers conducted a search of the waterway and recovered a .22 caliber handgun.
