New Hampshire (5-0, 2-0): In the battle of undefeated teams, New Hampshire came out on top against Richmond. The main story line was wide receiver David Ball catching his 51st career touchdown reception, breaking the Division I-AA record of former NFL great Jerry Rice. Ball had nine receptions as the Wildcats topped the Spiders, 27-17.
Massachusetts (4-1, 2-0): Steve Baylark and Tony Nelson combined for 256 yards rushing and five touchdowns as the Minutemen crushed William & Mary. With the 48-7 victory, UMass has now won three in a row.
Maine (3-2, 2-0): Arel Gordon rushed for 102 yards and Ron Whitcomb ran for two scores as the Black Bears knocked off undefeated Towson, 28-7. In the contest, Maine out-rushed Towson 255-41.
Hofstra (2-3, 1-2): The Pride failed to grab a victory in this year’s homecoming game. Kicker Rob Zarrilli kept Hofstra in the game with three field goals. With two minutes left in the game, the Pride got the ball hoping for a go-ahead touchdown, but the Villanova defense was just too much, as it sacked Anton Clarkson to end the game and the Pride fell, 20-16.
Northeastern (2-4, 1-2): Huskies kicker Mat Johnson kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired to beat Delaware, 27-24. The victory snapped Northeastern’s three-game losing skid.
Rhode Island (2-3, 0-2): The Rams’ 249 yards rushing were not enough as they fell to James Madison, 35-23.
