Robby Piazzaroli is from Oakville, Conn. and has lived in Nassau Hall for the past three years. He is a public relations and sociology dual minor. While at the University, Robby has been a member of many clubs and organizations and has participated in other on and off campus activities, including PRSSA. He has also received recognition for his many academic achievements, including a membership to the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and also to the Golden Key Honors Society. Robby has also been named to the Dean’s List for all of his semesters at Hofstra. He has been a Resident Assistant since his sophomore year and was named RA of the Month in Nassau Hall. Robby is extremely excited to be a homecoming king finalist. He is confident that he will be able to represent the Hofstra student body well if he is chosen this year’s homecoming king.
Matthew hails from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and is a double major in accounting and political science. He has been active as the business manager of the NEXUS yearbook since his freshman year and is a weekly columnist in The Chronicle. Since his sophomore year, he has served as a justice on the SGA Judicial Panel and a eucharistic minister for the Newman Club. During his time at the University, he has been a teacher’s assistant every semester and has contributed proposals for new majors and courses in the Zarb School of Business. In his free time, Matt enjoys visiting Long Island’s many museums, participating in fundraisers like Beta Alpha Psi’s Heartwalk and serving on the NYSSCPA’s Legal Relations Committee. Matt feels that he can serve as homecoming king by showing new students all the opportunities the University has to offer and by energizing current students to raise school spirit to a new high.
Joseph Carozza, a public relations major, was born and raised in Westchester County. Joe found that through hard work and dedication anything could be achieved. Joe found his way into many activities such as directing and performing in dramatic student and department shows, being an RA in Constitution Hall and gaining much experience in his public relations field. Joe began interning his sophomore year and has since held intern, entry level and freelance positions at The Britto Agency, Island Def Jam, Coach and Stepinac Theater. During the 2005 Presidential Conference, Joe was selected to work directly for President Clinton’s PR team during their visit on campus. Last semester, Joe studied abroad in Seville, Spain, where he learned the joys of siesta and tapas. Joe hopes to be chosen the 2006 homecoming king because through his own struggles and achievements he has become a role model for his peers. As a student leader, he is a prime example of one who does not just dream big, but has taken advantage of the life changing opportunities available here at Hofstra.
Sammi Rozakis is a business and fine arts dual minor from Farmingdale, N.Y. She is the editor-in-chief of NEXUS, the pep band captain, Student Government Spirit Chair, Student Activities aide, and a third-year RA in Netherlands North. Last year, Sammi was awarded the Pep Band Spirit Award, the Netherlands North Administrative RA of the Semester, the Bovenaan Award and Junior Woman of the Year. Sammi deserves the honor of being homecoming queen because she embodies University Pride. She wears her gold-and-blue gear all over the world, honoring her school. This always results in interesting encounters. Last year, for instance, a stranger in the elevator of a Las Vegas hotel saw Sammi’s Hofstra T-shirt and exclaimed: “You go to Hofstra? I went to Hofstra!” In St. Petersburg, a 1969 Hofstra grad gave Sammi a high-five when he saw her University T-shirt. As the daughter of two University alums, Sammi is honored to continue her parents legacy and carry on the University tradition in her family.
Courtney Kaczak is from the small town of Cinnaminson, N.J. Her major is in public relations with a minor in political science. Courtney has been involved in several clubs and organizations here at the University. She is currently the vice president of operations for her sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon. Courtney has also held several other important positions for her sorority. She is also a member of PRSSA and Pan-Hellenic Council. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, as well as the Order of Omega. In addition, Courtney has held several part-time jobs including swim coach for a major swim team as well as an internship in the city for the past three years. Courtney has been very involved in community service as well. During and outside of school, she has put hours into swim lessons, swim-a-thons, walks and other services to assist the community. Running for homecoming queen is a privilege and an honor for Courtney, and if she is chosen. Courtney hopes to serve as a mentor to University students.
Robyn Gertner is a secondary education English major from Brooklyn. As a freshman, she joined several clubs including the Hall Council of Liberty/Republic where she was elected as treasurer. Her contribution to campus life only grew from there, joining NEXUS, the peer mentor program, becoming managing editor of FONT, and acting as a University ambassador and orientation leader. Academically, Robyn has excelled, making Dean’s List and Provost Scholar, as well as being one of four juniors inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Robyn became particularly interested in Phi Eta Sigma, an honors society, where she currently serves as president. Robyn believes that a homecoming queen should embody the statement, “college is what you make of it.” While Robyn feels she has changed her school for the better, the school has changed her for the better as well. College is what you make of it, and she truly has made the most of the University.
Ashley Troutman is a senior marketing major from Wethersfield, Conn. She was raised by her parents, Rick and Dale, and has a younger brother, Adam. Ashley is presently a resident assistant in Constitution Hall, and was awarded “RA of the Month” her first month as an RA in September 2005. She currently works for the Office of University Relations, and also has been interning in the marketing department at www.1-800-Flowers.com since June. She is a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon, where she has had the opportunity to help raise money for breast cancer and cystic fibrosis research. She is also a member of the University advertising club and in the future, she aspires to work for an advertising agency. Her most memorable experience at the University was studying abroad in Venice during January 2006. The most important thing she learned was to always reach for your dreams. Otherwise, you will read about them happening to someone else. She has no regrets during her past three years because she has continually challenged herself to become the person she is today.
Cassie Goldberg is a 21-year-old senior from Massapequa, N.Y., majoring in public relations with a minor in psychology. She is the senior resident assistant of Suffolk Hall, where she serves as an assistant to the director and helps run a staff of 11 resident assistants. She is also a member of Alpha Phi sorority, where she has held two executive board positions. Cassie thinks she should be elected 2006 homecoming queen because she feels that she has accomplished a variety of things that she is proud of during her years at the University. She feels that her time at college has truly been lived to the fullest, as she has been involved in a variety of organizations and activities that have helped her illustrate her innermost qualities. Cassie believes that college has taught her the ability to be a strong leader and a positive motivator, which are two qualities that she feels are important in someone who would be representing the University as a whole.
Lisa Giunta is a resident of Levittown, N.Y. As a student in Honors College, Lisa is a history major and is a political science and American studies dual minor. She is also the president of the Organization of Commuter Students, the vice-chairwoman of the College Republicans and an involved member of the Hofstra Historians. Additionally, Lisa has been an active senator in the Student Government Association for over two years and is currently the Rules Committee chairwoman. Moreover, she has co-founded two student organizations, Science-fiction, Comic, Anime, Fantasy Fans United (SCAFFU) and Students for Life. She is the President and Vice President of these clubs, respectively. Lisa has also been accepted into several honor societies, including Pi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta, Pi Sigma Alpha, the Golden Key International Honor Society, and Phi Eta Sigma. Due to her scholarly and extracurricular achievements, Lisa believes she would make an excellent choice for this year’s homecoming queen.
Jim Hyuck Oh is an accounting and finance double major from St Petersburg, Fla. He spent the first 16 years of his life in Kunsan, South Korea. He then moved to Florida where he attended Northeast High School. At the University, he has been involved as the president of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the manager of the Hofstra Baseball Team. Jim competed in FBLA’s State Competitions and placed first in Accounting and Sports Management. Jim wishes to pursue his career in baseball management and to one day become the president of a major league baseball team. He believes he deserves to be this year’s homecoming king because he represents the success of the University by doing his best every day. He is certain that the University and its students will enjoy a great deal of success in the future, and he is eager to be a big part of this success.
