The University’s director of residential life jumped ship last month resigning after heading the office for one year to enjoy the open waters.
Craig Hauser, who left the University to work with Semester at Sea, a program that educates college students as they travel around the world, worked in the department for almost three years.
Associate Dean of Students Lynda O’Malley was named acting director. The search for a permanent replacement is underway.
Hauser’s resignation comes as the office prepares for room selection, and as the Netherlands shifts to house only freshmen next year.
“Craig did a lot of advanced work before he left, a lot of the processes are already under way, including room selection,” said O’Malley.
She has worked for the University for 17 years and started off as the ResLife area coordinator for the Netherlands.
“His job was definitely not a 9 to 5,” said Angelique Velez, administrative coordinator of Residential Life. “He came in early and would stay way late as well. I think he made [Residential Life] a lot of fun for the students.”
Hauser also encouraged resident assistants to come to him.
“His open door policy was a great way for him to meet as much of the staff of students as possible,” Velez said.
