In addition to the weekend success in Philadelphia, Coach Clugston had more exciting news when addressing the team before Monday’s practice. He named two more captains, seniors Rob Yawman and Ryan Drudy, to join existing captains, Kevin Sheerin, Tyler Kevorkian and Alex Nucera. Yawman and Drudy have been vital to the team’s success during their careers at Hofstra, especially the team’s run at a national tournament berth thus far this season.
The two seniors ranked first and second in goals on the team last year, with only one tally separating them. So far this year, they’ve played more of a defensive role, limiting the opposing team’s scoring chances, especially on the penalty kill.
Drudy, the team’s penalty-killing specialist, scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the team’s victory over IUP Sunday. Yawman conributed to the three weekend victories by scoring a pair of assists.
“When other teams step onto the ice against us, I want us to know what we’re about. Everything Ryan and Rob do on and off the ice symbolizes what we’re about,” said the coach when asked about his decision. “The way they play, how they never give up. They bleed blue and gold.”
