It is as if on signing day Coach Pecora gave Antoine Agudio a pen and a marble notebook and asked him to rewrite the Hofstra Men’s College Basketball record book; because that is what he has been doing throughout his entire career.
Well after practice had ended, only senior guard Antoine Agudio remained, practicing at the charity stripe. The same Antoine Agudio who is only 531 points away from breaking the Hofstra record for career points, a 43-year-old mark held by Steve Nisenson.
“I think about it, but at the same time I’m trying to get my team rockin’ and rollin and get some W’s,” Agudio said.”You just gotta get out there and play and let the record come when it comes,” he added.
That will be easier said than done, considering the amount of pressure Agudio will be playing with this season. Since the graduation Stokes and Rivera last year, the leadership role has landed squarely on Agudio’s shoulders. “I know it’s my job to take over where Loren and Carlos left off last season,” Agudio said.
Aside from the Hofstra three-point record (which is still being added too), Agudio is also in reach of Brett Blizzard’s CAA record for three-pointers. At the beginning of the season, Antoine was 98 triples away from tying Blizzard’s mark of 371. If you have been following Agudio’s yearly trends (82, 91,100 respectively), it should be yet another accomplishment to add to his already overflowing marble notebook.
After his season opening 28 points against Holy Cross, Agudio will need to average about 19 points a game to break the career points record. Considering that he averaged 20 points a game last season (while playing in the same backcourt as Stokes and Rivera) there is no reason to believe his name will not be in the record books after this season is all said and done.
When he was asked if there is any pressure on him to break Nisenson’s record, Agudio answered “No, not at all. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing.
