The Student Government Association (SGA) passed a resolution on Tuesday urging the University to install bulletin boards in the main unispan and the Netherlands pedestrian bridge.
Ashley Kowal, the SGA Ethics and Conduct chair, proposed the legislation to determine a way to place bulletin boards on the walls of the main unispan in order to allow clubs an extra opportunity to advertise events.
The board would be used only by clubs to advertise for events, much like the bulletin boards already existing in residence halls.
Rules Committee Chair Jared Berry amended the resolution to include the Netherlands pedestrian bridge with the intent that freshman especially could take advantage of the notices and it might encourage them to be more involved in campus events.
The resolution does not specify where the bulletin boards would be placed.
If the University accepts the proposal, officials will decide where the boards would be located.
“I was walking through the unispan and I just noticed how blank the walls looked, and it was so different than all of the fliers you see around the campus,” Kowal said. “I thought that’s a perfect place. Everyone has to go through the unispan to get to class anyway. It would be a perfect spot to advertise for clubs.”
Some senators were concerned that bulletin boards would create unnecessary traffic when the unispan is crowded in between classes.
People stopping to read notices could create problems in an already crowded space. However, the resolution passed with a large majority.
