Juniors Brit Blankmeyer and Charlia Warner were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association in a vote of the league’s head coaches. Blankmeyer and Warner were named to the All-CAA second team, while freshman Amy-Lee Levey was also privileged to garner an All-Rookie accolade.
Blankmeyer led the Pride in scoring during the 2007 season, establishing career highs with eight goals and five assists for a total of 21 points. Excited to receive such an honorable award, Blankmeyer attributes the development of her strong work ethic to her father, the head coach of the St. John’s University Baseball Team. “My father knows a lot about athletics and coaching, he has helped me through it.”
Teammate Pemba Ramdoo, a current senior on the Women’s Field Hockey Team, has also helped to motivate Blankmeyer. She said, “Pemba loves the game, and I’ve never met someone with such a great work ethic.”
Warner, a first team All-CAA selection last year and an All-Rookie choice in 2005, was second in scoring on the team with five goals and four assists. The forward from Bridgetown, Barbados recorded 14 points on the season despite groin and ankle injuries.
Honored to be recognized for her athletic talent for the third year in a row, Warner said she finds inspiration from her fellow players. She said, “My teammates inspire me, there are people who do not play, but they practice just as hard as if they were preparing for a game.”
Levey, a Zimbabwe native, recorded three goals for six points in her first year and was named CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring the game- winning goal against a competitive Virginia Commonwealth team.
Coach Kathy De Angelis is elated that three of Hofstra’s players have been named to All- CAA teams. She said, “The number of players selected from our team is significant given our competitive conference.”
