The Student Government Association Senate passed a resolution on Tuesday to extend the Axinn Library hours of operation.
Ashley Kowal, the SGA Ethics and Conduct chair, proposed to change the current hours the Axinn Library is open. With this change, more students would have the opportunity to use the library’s facilities later at night.
As of now, the Axinn Library is open until midnight on most nights.
During finals week, Dec. 13 through 19, the library is open 24 hours a day. This resolution would extend the hours all semester instead of just during finals week.
“My roommate came up to me and said, ‘You know, I really want to go to the library and study.’ But it was closing, because it was getting late. And I said, ‘You know what? I’m in SGA. I can write a resolution about that.'” Kowal said, adding, “A lot of students would really use it if it was open later. Because most students, lets face it, don’t write their papers before midnight, and Hammer Lab is too noisy; so some place they could take out books, or they can quietly study is a really good idea.”
The resolution passed without debate. SGA resolutions are merely suggestions to the University, and they do not always come to fruition.
