Stealing Jane, a popular local band from Glen Head, found their way into the hearts of dozens of new fans at Monday night’s show at the Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale.
The band’s seven different personalities (Bryce Larsen – Lead Vocals/Guitar, Pat Iannelli – Saxophone/Vocals, Andrew Mericle – Trumpet/Vocals, Brian Bunce – Bass/Vocals, Matt Giordano – Guitar/Vocals, Dave Calzone – Trombone/Vocals and Vito Fraccalvieri – Drums/Percussion) combined their talents to create catchy, harmonious numbers. The band also threw in a dash of quirky choreography with the good intention of entertaining their loyal fans.
Stealing Jane’s songs are not topping the billboard charts (yet), but playing in small venues such as the Crazy Donkey and Metasin in Levittown give all seven members the opportunity to get to know their fans, who usually range between the ages of 15 and 25. It doesn’t take much effort to spot them off stage, making friendly conversation with both new and old listeners, before they make their timely visit with you.
Their sound is similar to that of their idols, including Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, and Sublime, but an obvious alternative flare usually expected from Long Island bands is also there, setting them apart from other performers and making them more far more memorable.
A high school battle of the bands in 2000 brought the members together, and since then Stealing Jane has toured with established musicians such as The Wailers, Spin Doctors and Josh Kelly. Recently the group signed a contract with a small independent label, BTO Records, and is highly anticipating the release of their first album “Say Something” due to hit the shelves this coming September. For now, their songs can be heard on the Internet through MySpace and PureVolume.
The Hofstra community will also be able to experience the energetic group, along with RX Bandits, for free on May 5 on the Intramural Field.
