It was a time of crisis. Long Island had lost it and many feared it would never return. But on Wednesday, March 21, our great Island was saved at last. Justin Timberlake finally brought sexy back.
Small children, accompanied by their parents, teenagers and many adults flocked to the Nassau Coliseum to see the pop icon perform his FutureSex/LoveShow tour. Cheesy jokes aside, Timberlake lived up to the hype of his tour and delivered an outstanding performance.
The night started out with Pink, who fired up the audience with her tremendous of energy. She performed songs off of her latest album I’m Not Dead, including the latest single “U & Ur Hand” and also sang crowd favorites like “Don’t Let Me Get Me” and “Get The Party Started”, which she performed while tumbling mid-air attached to only a ribbon.
After she left, the crowd anxiously awaited for the main act to emerge. Minutes later, the lights dimmed and the music started along with the words “future, sex, love, and sound” being flashed on the stage. After what seemed like hours, Justin Timberlake rose up out of the stage and the concert began.
He opened with the title song from his second and most recent album, FutureSex/LoveSounds. The song was almost drowned out by the screams from the audience, many being girls who have loved Timberlake since he was a member of *NSYNC. It was clear from this performance that Timberlake has been able to go beyond this boy-band image and really evolve as an artist, though he did perform the *NYSNC song “Gone.” Other than that, he stuck to his solo hits from Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds.
He showed his range of talents during the concert, often taking breaks in between dancing to play the piano and the guitar. When he did dance, however, he showed that his talent for this is just as strong as his ability to sing. When he got to “Chop Me Up”, Timberlake had a surprise guest in store for the audience – hit producer Timberland, who has had a huge part in both of Timberlake’s albums. After the song, Timberlake left the stage fora short break and Timberland performed some of his own material.
As Timberlake took the stage for the second time, the crowd erupted with even more fervor than they had the first time. He continued to fire off the hits like “Lovestoned/I Think That She Knows” and “Rock Your Body.”
His best performance by far was “SexyBack”, for which Timberland came back. He took time after this to thank the audience, saying that without them he would just be a “halfway hillbilly.”
Timberlake ended the night back at the piano with “Another Song All Over Again.” He pulled off an extremely entertaining performance with the talent and charm that has made him a superstar and will no doubt continue to do so throughout the years.
