A devoted fan of The Used will surely appreciate this two-disk set, featuring a CD of a live concert in Vancouver. There’s also two and a half hours of video footage, including the concert itself, behind the scenes endeavors, music videos and a playful Q&A section. For mediocre supporters, however, the extensive coverage of the daily mischief the members partake in, from booger-eating to mooning, may come as a little too much information.
At the PNE Forum in Vancouver, lead singer Bert McCracken starts the night off with a bang, screaming his way through the crowd-pleaser “Take It Away,” but his clear vocals and enthusiastic shrieks disintegrate by a breathier, slightly off-key version of “Taste of Ink,” only the fourth song of the evening. He hits a second wave three songs later in “A Box Full of Sharp Objects,” which along with “On My Own” are surprisingly absent from the CD portion.
Perhaps “Reberth” would be a more appropriate title for the album; a succession to 2004’s In Love and Death, it’s as if the live CD/DVD set Maybe Memories is born again. Both releases act as temporary distractions to occupy fans between albums, and while we might get a few kicks out of it while we anxiously await Lies for the Liars to grace our presence on May 8th, Berth will likely make its way to that dark dusty corner of our closets soon after.
