East Meadow
-On March 5, Benjamin Gutt, 21, and Jalaluddin Khojandi, 25, entered a residence and assaulted a male victim, 25, with baseball bats. The two fled the scene and the victim called the police. The victim suffered multiple lacerations to his head and injuries to his right shoulder.
-On March 6, a white male subject, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a goatee and partial beard, medium build, wearing a blue sweatshirt, entered the Roslyn Savings Bank and presented a note demanding money from a teller. After obtaining an unknown amount of money, the subject fled on foot out the front door.
Franklin Square
-On March 2, five teenagers approached four 15-year-old male victims on Franklin Ave. at Woodcliff Drive, and asked them if they wanted to buy marijuana. When the victims replied negatively, the defendants drove away. They returned minutes later and said they had a gun, and demanded their cash and cell phones. The teenagers arrested were Yveson Elie, 17, Joseph Ammirati, 17, Giordanni Osse, 18, Andy Cuteo, 19, and Frank Grieco, 16.
Manhasset
-On March 1, a newborn baby girl was found inside a public restroom of North Shore Hospital. An employee found the baby and notified a pediatric nurse, who in turn brought the baby to doctors for an evaluation.
-On March 5, a black female, late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a long black bubble type jacket and dark glasses, entered the Chase Bank on Northern Blvd. and presented the teller a demand note that indicated she had a bomb. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money the subject fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction and left a plastic container on the counter. The object left behind was a pack of baby wipes, not a bomb.
Massapequa
-On Feb. 28, defendant Robert Ruggiero, 36, of East Wantagh, made a purchase at two separate dairy barns using fraudulent bills. In both instances, store clerks discovered the fraudulent bills and quickly noted the subject’s vehicle and registration and notified police.
Roosevelt
-On March 6, a fire occurred at an unoccupied home on Woods Ave. that was under construction. The home was fully engulfed with flames and required approximately seven fire departments with 20 pieces of equipment along with 100 personnel to extinguish the fire. The fire was deemed suspicious and is under investigation.
Roslyn Heights
-On March 5, Arthur Norman, 44, while operating a 2004 GMC box truck on the South Service Road of the Long Island Expressway was in a collision with a 1995 Mitsubishi operated by a male victim, 46. Norman left the scene without identifying himself. The victim followed Norman eastbound on the service road to Searingtown Road where the victim exited his vehicle and approached the driver side door or the box truck. Norman drove away eastbound at speeds over 40 miles and hour fully aware that the victim was hanging on the driver side door.
Valley Stream
-On Feb. 28, husband and wife homeowners of a residence on East St. Marks Place were woken by the sound of a safety gate opening in their dining room. When the 40-year-old husband went to investigate he confronted the subject who was in possession of his wife’s purse. The subject escaped through a side door after a physical confrontation. The subject was described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, in his late 30s to early 40s, with a stocky build, short dark hair, wearing a gray sweatshirt, dark colored sweatpants and a black knit cap.
Westbury
-On March 5, officers observed Joel Guzman, 20, conduct hand-to-hand transactions with the operators of two vehicles that had pulled up in front of his residence. Both vehicles were stopped by officers a short time later and both operators, Robert Rizzo, 23, and Patrick Benjamin, 22, were found to be in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. Rizzo was also in possession of a gravity knife and one pill believed to be Xanax.
