East Garden City
-On Feb. 21, police arrested Joseph G. Haberken III, 35. A police officer observed the defendant operating his 1994 Mercedes with only one headlight and after stopping him observed that he was obviously intoxicated. Shortly after, a 911 notification was broadcast for a possible drunk driver fitting the description of the arrestee’s vehicle. The defendant’s 6-year-old daughter was in the back seat.
East Meadow
-On Feb. 22, the East Meadow Fire Department responded to Nassau University Medical Center for the report of a mattress fire. Upon arrival, they found a burnt mattress that had been extinguished by hospital staff. There were no injuries, but the fire was deemed suspicious. After an investigation it was determined that the patient, Tanya K. Morris, 38, had set her bedding on fire.
-On Feb. 26, officers responded to a 911 call for a possible mental aided case. Upon arrival, officers observed the defendant, Yong N. Yi, 37, naked with only his pants around his ankles, rolling and thrashing on the sidewalk in front of his own residence. Inside, officers found the defendant’s wife unconcscious. After an investigation it was found that the two of them had used a combination of heroin and crack cocaine.
Freeport
-On Feb. 26, Matthew A. Hammer, 24, was arrested after committing three residential burglaries in the Freeport and Baldwin areas. He entered three unoccupied residences and removed money and prescription drugs.
Garden City
-On Feb. 23, Garden City Police Officer Jacobsen observed what appeared to be a traffic stop by another jurisdiction because the Garden City Police department does not use that type of vehicle, a black Chevrolet Trail Blazer. After being asked the defendant responded he was from the State Department, but it was soon found out that the subject, Mathew Edelman-Winstead, 25, recently resigned as a police officer for the NYPD and was unlawfully conducting a VTL investigation.
Hicksville
-On Feb. 22, Bobby B. Sodhi, 37, of South Farmingdale driving a black 2001 Ford Expedition was involved in an auto accident with the deceased victim, Sarah Fitzsimons, 21, of Baldwin. The deceased was attempting a left hand turn when the defendant’s Expedition struck her 1999 green Saturn.
Massapequa
-On Feb. 22, two officers responded to a radio call for a robbery and received a notification that the subject left the scene in a white auto. While canvassing the streets, the officers observed a white Honda Accord and after performing a traffic stop the officer learned that the driver, Sean Kenny, 32, had his license suspended three times. The subject was in possession of crack cocaine concealed in the headband of his baseball cap.
North Merrick
-On Feb. 26, a male subject entered the China King 2 Restaurant, walked over to the counter, produced a silver knife and demanded that the 23-year-old male worker open the register. When the victim informed the subject there was no money in the register, he turned around and exited. The subject is described as a white male, 5 foot 10 inches tall, wearing a green ski mask. His left eye was described as gray and cloudy.
Syosset
-On Feb. 22, Tomasz Soltys, 16, of Ridgewood, along with a juvenile were selling candy for Youth Development for New York at the Long Island Press. Upon exiting the building, the co-defendant, observed a pocket book on a desk and removed the wallet while Soltys kept a watch. The subjects fled after being seen by an employee.
Uniondale
-On Feb. 27, a 32-year-old male victim heard a popping sound outside his residence. When he went to investigate, he found that the should side exterior of his home was on fire. Uniondale fire department responded with five fire trucks and fifty fire fighters. There was damage to the basement and exterior of the home.
Westbury
-On Feb. 24, undercover detectives entered a location on Winthrop Street to conduct and investigation for illegal massages. While present, an undercover officer received an illegal massage and an offer for sex in exchange for currency from Wei Xiang Feng, 41, of Flushing. Hua Zhang, 46, of Flushing, who is not licensed to practice massage therapy was also arrested.
Williston Park
-On Feb. 24, undercover officers entered a location on Hillside Ave. in order to conduct an investigation for illegal massages. One undercover officer received an illegal massage and offer for sex in exchange for currency from Jin Nu Fang, 51, of Flushing. Yu Fen Jin, 44, of Flushing, who is not licensed to practice massage therapy also massaged undercover officers and was arrested.
