University professor, John Impagliazzo, Ph.D., won a Lifetime Service award for his 40-year contribution to computer science education.
Impagliazzo will receive the award on March 10 from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), according to a news release from the University.
The Lifetime award recognizes an individual who has dedicated his or her time in giving service to the field of computer science.
Impagliazzo has worked at the University’s Computer Science Department since 1984 and has been serving as department chair for more than six years. He has also received the Computer Society Outstanding Contribution Award in 2005 from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society.
“We applaud the ACM’s recognition of [Impagliazzo’s] many valuable contributions to the field of computer science education, something we at Hofstra have valued for many years,” Provost Herman Berliner said in the release. “Generations…have benefited from his knowledge, international experience and continuing passion in his field.”
