The Hofstra women’s basketball team continued to keep the ball rolling win two more wins this past week at putting themselves above .500. Joelle Connelly and Jess Fuller are those continuing to lead the charge as they have been garnering CAA Rookie of the Week awards and putting up career numbers, respectively.
In Tuesday’s win over Maine, Fuller notched her second straight double-double and set career highs in four different categories. With 21 points, Fuller, along with teammates Sam Bringham and Natty Fripp, kept the team in the game up until the very last minute. A game that had been close from tip off marked excellent poise and maturity for the Pride as they battled it out and picked up the win. With only 1:26 remaining, Maine mustered up a 56-55 lead but Fripp changed all that for the Pride. As she drove the ball down court, she was fouled and sank both free throws at the line. Shortly after, Fuller scored another basket and at 59-56, the Pride picked up their third victory in four weeks.
Connelly, despite having a mere 4 points against Maine has remained hot during her Hofstra campaign. For the third time in four weeks, Connelly picked up Rookie of the Week honors after a big game at Buffalo. Against the Bulls, Connelly picked up a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds and banked in the shot that sent them into overtimes. Fuller also had a stellar night, as she had 14 points and thirteen rebounds and equally impressive was freshman Nicole Capursoís performance. Capurso had a team-high 17 points and sank key three-pointers late in the game. Emerging as the sixth man, Capurso like Connelly has made a quick impact on the Prideís performance. Third on the team in points, Capurso has left her mark making an impressive 38 percent of three-pointers and leading the team with 11.
The Pride look to continue their non-conference schedule as they host Rice tomorrow at 7:00 and Saint Francis on Monday.
