To the Editor:
I am writing in response to your article “Clubs on Probation” which appeared in the Nov. 4 issue of The Chronicle.
My name is Jennifer Sandella and I am the president of Hofstra University’s Spectrum Players. I was shocked to open The Chronicle Friday afternoon and read highlighted in this article, specifically picked out over several other clubs, that Spectrum had been deactivated as a club. As far as I had been aware, all of our paperwork had been turned in on time and we were operating full force, with an unfrozen budget. A call to Student Activities Tuesday morning confirmed this. Spectrum Players has not been deactivated as a club this semester, and our budget has not been frozen. I wish that The Chronicle would take more care in verifying the sources that they use in writing their articles. Also, since The Chronicle not only listed Spectrum with all the other supposedly deactivated clubs on campus, but also chose to specifically mention us by name in the article, the club wishes that The Chronicle issue a retraction and an apology. The current executive board strives to maintain good reputation within the Hofstra community. This article made the club look unprofessional and disorganized, two things that it most certainly is not.
Sincerely,
Jennifer SandellaPresident, Spectrum Players
