The Hofstra Pride women’s soccer team was unable to keep sole possession of 1st place this weekend as they played James Madison University. JMU took a 1 goal lead in the 33rd minute of the game and would tack on one more in the 59th minute.
Hofstra was able to stay in the game with a goal in the 63rd minute by Erika Fuertes. Goalkeeper Krystal Robens allowed both goals, but was able to make 7 saves on the day. It was a big game for the Pride as they had a chance to really take a step in front of rival JMU. Both teams had close to the same record, but JMU had 1 more win and Hofstra had 1 more loss coming into the affair.
After this weekend, JMU went to 8-2-0 in the CAA and 12-4-2 on the year and Hofstra went to 7-2-1 in the CAA and 10-6-2 on the year. It’s been a heck of a season for Hofstra and they can’t finish any lower then 3rd place and would need a JMU loss to finish higher. The Pride wrap there season up with a game home against Northeastern and the first round of the CAA tourney starts November 4th and it will be very interesting to see how the pieces fall into place going into that first game.
