At age 21, one would think to find the average young adult enrolled at a college or university, serving a tour in the armed forces or slaving away in the work force, all nervously swimming around in a pond with big, experienced fish.
But Jamie Lober is no minnow in dangerous waters. At the young age of 23, Lober has served on an advisory board on Jewish Affairs for Senator John McCain, run for mayor of her college town, and even written her own book, “Pink Power: We Girls Can Do Anything!” Her inspiring handbook which allows the reader to become “aware and in control” and most of all, give them the ability to live a happy, confident life of success.
Lober’s book draws inspiration from her role models, her experiences, her accomplishments as well as her failures- all of which have helped her develop the confidence to motivate others to take control of their lives, their minds, their bodies and to make the decisions that are right for their lives.
“I have found that every time you take a step forward, there is someone who wants you to take one step back,” Lober says, adding, “[People] are like the elevator, they bring you up or down, some can even do both. Find people who feel good about yourself and accept you for who you are.”
According to Lober, her book is a guideline for avoiding those steps and those elevators that push you back and bring you down. In turn, it teaches the reader how to maintain common ground with confidence in their life.
According to Lober the ultimate message of her book is: “Never give up and never ever give in. Everyone has a story, and if you think someone else’s book looks good, you probably haven’t read all the pages.”
Lober continues, “Know that you do have rights and exercise them. To guys in particular, I say: Be sure you are spending time with a girl for the right reasons! Let girls know they are worth it–for their body AND their mind. Girls aim for a sense of security in relationships..”
Lober hopes her audience will learn to empower themselves; to earn the confidence to speak up and demand what they deserve, and to be able to fight for themselves, their community and the rest of their world.
Lober herself is living proof that “Pink Power,” which she defines as “not being afraid to defy the odds and to be strong as a female,” works when you live your life by it.
At just 21, Lober ran for mayor of her college’s town, with the hopes of bringing a gust of fresh air into the office. Although Lober didn’t win the position, she still proved to the people of her town that the new generation of young women are motivated in a way as never before and that they can change the world for the best if they are given a chance, a chance that Lober is still holding out for as far as her political career is concerned.
“There is nothing sadder than to live in silence in a country so blessed with freedoms,” Lober says.
Lober may have not walked away victorious but she sates hopefully,”[although] the world is unjust and the winner does not always walk away with the prize, being one of the youngest mayoral candidates in the country, I made a powerful statement that is reflective of the book: we girls can do anything.”
Even though Lober has accomplished unimaginable personal, political and professional achievements at such a young age, she believes her work is far from done, her talent, far from dry. Lober has big wishes for her future.
“I hope for the honor of one day serving in the U.S. Senate,” Lober states. “Ronald Reagan once said: ‘Politics is just like show business. You have a hell of an opening, coast for awhile, and then have a hell of a close.’
It is quite true that Lober’s opening act has been an exceptional one, and if Reagan’s quote proves to be true, Lober’s name will hopefully one day follow the word “Senator.” It’s certainly clear that no matter what she ends up doing, Lober will have one hell of a curtain call.
