As we begin a new semester, I have noticed some of the changes that the University has made, apparently in an effort to make students happier.
The first change I noticed is that complimentary academic planners were offered to all students-by being included in the Guide to Pride Handbook, that is. If I had known that from the start, I never would have purchased a planner on my own. The problem with this combination is that on top of being big to carry as a planner, the guidebook no longer includes its useful campus phone directory. Don’t get me wrong, there is still plenty of information in it, but that was one of the main reasons students even turned to this guide. I feel bad having to call University switchboard so many times to reach numbers that I used to be able to quickly locate myself.
Secondly, the Wellness Center hours have been extended. It is now open during the weekend and has extended hours during weekdays. But, as always, you better be sure to call ahead of time for an appointment because they hate it when you just walk in (because we all plan when we’re going to get sick, right?).
Similarly, the Recreation Center has changed its hours, opening earlier and closing later than it used to. Lastly, other small changes include getting rid of the bright lights that made it difficult to hold conversations while eating in the front of the Student Center Cafe. Also, more comfortable chairs have also been put in the 24-hour study room outside of Hammer Lab. Thanks, Hofstra, for these improvements!
