Elmont
Two arrests were made for a robbery that took place on March 28. Detectives report that Dwayne John, 17, of Elmont and Jeff Raymond, 16, along with a juvenile, while on Fieldmere Street. and 106th Street, struck a male victim, 17, from behind and took a cell phone and Sony PSP from his pocket. No injuries were reported.
Detectives report that a black male (18-22 years old, 6’0″, thin build, dark complexion, wearing dark blue clothes and a dark baseball cap) riding a bicycle in front of 31 Harding Place, confronted a female victim, age 15. The subject produced a knife, grabbed the victim’s right arm and demanded the victim’s cell phone. The victim was able to break free and run toward a friend’s car. The subject got back on his mountain bike and fled the scene.
Freeport
On Friday, March 28, according to detectives, two black males wearing dark clothing entered the Thomas Pharmacy located on Main Street. One of the suspects, 5’9″ tall, mid-20’s and wearing a dark baseball cap produced a handgun and demanded cash from the 23 year-old female employee. She complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money. Both suspects then exited the store and fled on foot.
Hicksville
According to detectives, a black Pontiac automobile with tinted windows approached a 16 year-old female while in the south parking lot of the Hicksville Mall. The vehicle was occupied by three male Hispanics between the ages of 18 and 21. The front-seat passenger (light-skinned with a shaved head) engaged the victim in conversation, grabbed her by the jacket and attempted to pull her into the automobile through the window. The victim resisted, freed herself from the suspect and ran back inside the mall. The suspects fled the scene in the black Pontiac. The victim sustained a minor injury to her arm that did not require immediate medical attention.
Hempstead
Detectives report that on Saturday, March 29, Hempstead Police Officer Clarence Shury was on routine patrol when a male witness reported that someone had been shot in his basement. Police Officer Shury called for assistance, entered the basement and discovered a male victim lying on the basement floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Nassau County Ambulance Medical Technician Daniel O’Keefe responded and pronounced the victim dead at 5:15 a.m. Homicide Sqaud detectives responded to the scene and are investigating. The body of the victim, identified as Andre Chambers, 23, of Roosevelt, was transported to Nassau University Medical Center pending a medical examiner’s report.
Mineola
On March 27, a bank robbery occurred at the Commerce Bank on Jericho Turnpike. According to detectives, the suspect is described as a dark-skinned, white male, 5’7″, tall, in his mid thirties, of medium build, wearing a hooded flannel jacket and black gloves. The suspect approached the teller, displayed a silver handgun and gave a note demanding cash. After obtaining an undisclosed amount money, he fled the scene on foot eastbound through the parking lot towards Beebe Road. There were no injuries at the time of the robbery. There were six employees and one customer present at the time the crime took place.
