As I sit in Tammy Kim’s room, attempting to get an interview, her phone is ringing off the hook.
Kim, 19, a broadcast journalism major and political science minor, originally from Sunnyvale, Calif., is what some would call a popular girl. She’s a resident assistant in Suffolk Hall, the Spirit Chair for Student Government Association (SGA), she’s training to be on the radio, works at Residential Programs, is on a Financial ad hoc Committee, all while planning the Hofstra Student Leadership Awards.
The financial committee, run through SGA, is trying to plan a scholarship fair. “If they’re not going to give us money, then they should provide us with something to get money,”Kim says.
Kim came to New York for the School of Communication and also to get a change of pace.
“I’ve lived in the same place all my life,” she says. She also hopes that being so close to the city will open doors for her career through internships.
“I do have a lot of big dreams,” Kim says about her future.
She would love to work for an entertainment or sports channel, although her minor in political science will not go to waste.
“I’m fascinated with politics,” she expressed. “I like current events. My personality does not fit with a tragedy.”
She also has plans for the University. “I want to leave Hofstra with something carrying on…a tradition and say ‘Hey, I started that!'” Kim says.
She is currently applying to be a senior resident assistant (SRA), but has no plans of running for president or vice president of SGA. She does say “Go Kate and Brent!” and of course, “GO HOFSTRA PRIDE!”
