Lynbrook
Luis Martinez, 22, Brett Lawrence, 17, Donald Henenlotter, 21, Fred Demarco, 17, along with a 15- year-old juvenile whose identity is being withheld, acted in consort to rob the Express Food Mart,(defendant Martinez’s place of employment), punching Martinez in the face during the course of the “robbery,” and removing cash receipts and cigarettes. Subsequently, Martinez reported the incident to the Lynbrook P.D. which led to the above defendants arrests. All are being charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree and Conspiracy 4th Degree. Martinez is also charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident and a False Sworn Statement. The juvenile is charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree and will be arraigned in Family Court.
West Hempstead
The arrest of a West Hempstead man for larceny and forgery. According to detectives, on August 8 2007, defendant Garth Lewis, age 37, deposited a forged check for $30,000 into a personal business account at Bank of America, West Hempstead branch, and subsequently withdrew $30,000 against it. Investigation by the bank and Crimes Against Property Squad detectives led to Lewis’ arrest. The defendant is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree.
Hempstead
The Homicide Squad reports the details of an assault that occurred in Hempstead on March 6. According to detectives, the suspect entered and apartment on Terrace Avenue and assaulted the thirty-one year old male victim. During the assault the suspect retrieved a knife from his book bag and stabbed the victim in the torso and leg. The victim was transported to Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola and admitted in critical condition. The suspect, who was described as a black male in his mid twenties, fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Massapequa
A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred at 2:43 a.m. on Friday March 7 in Massapequa. According to Detectives, Mary E. Pogiatzis, 25 was driving her black 2000 Pontiac eastbound on Sunrise Highways at the intersection of Old Sunrise Highway where she failed to negotiate a turn and her vehicle continued in a straight direction onto the median striking a utility pole. The aided was transported by Country Ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m. by hospital staff. The vehicle has been impounded for safety checks.
Oceanside
A Jericho man was arrested at 1:25 p.m. on Friday, March 7. According to Detectives, Jeffrey S. Trichon, 42, the store owner of Diamond Beauty Supply in Oceanside has various counterfeit handbags, wallets, sunglasses and jewelry all in plain view being offered for sale. The total loss to the actual companies was $3066.00. Defendant Jeffrey S. Trichon is charged with Counterfeit 2nd Degree and will be released on an appearance ticket.
Roslyn Heights
A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred in Roslyn Heights at 1:30 p.m, on Friday, March 7. Anthony DiTore, 65, was driving a 2006 Ford 500 northbound on Roslyn Road when the nineteen-year old male driver of a 2007 Jeep Cherokee attempted to enter Roslyn Road from Club Drive. The two cars collided causing Anthony DiTore’s vehicle to spin out of control into a 2001 GMC school bus that was traveling southbound on Roslyn Road. Mr. DiTore and the seventy-four year old female driver of the school bus were both transported to Winthrop Hospital. Mr.DiTore was pronounced dead at 2:09 p.m. The driver of the school bus was admitted in serious but stable condition with multiple neck and spine fractures. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee received no injuries. There were five children on the bus ages three and four years old transported to Nassau University Medical Center for precautionary purposes only. All vehicles were imported for safety checks.
Levittown
Oscar Portillo, 48 of Rockaway Park NY entered the Bank of America located on Hempstead Turnpike. He approached a teller and passed a note demanding cash. The teller told police that the subject appeared to have a gun inside his shirtsleeve. After taking an undetermined amount of cash from the bank, Portillo was observed entering an MTA bus heading westbound on Hempstead Turnpike. Eighth Precinct Police Officers John Fred and Thomas Lopiccolo observed a subject matching the description of the bank robbery suspect exiting a bus on Hempstead Turnpike and Oak Street in Hempstead and arrested Portillo at 12:37 p.m. on March 11.
