By my account, I have received four letters from the University asking for donations since I graduated in May 2007, not including the letter I received two weeks before graduation, asking for $20.07.
While I understand that the University is partially supported by its alumni, I find it rather inappropriate that the administration is so quick to tap graduates for cash before the ink on our diplomas dries. I took out three student loans to put myself through college and by my calculations, it will take approximately fifteen years to pay off the $50,000 that is owed to various lenders. Therefore, I am not currently financially able to contribute to the University.
Although I am very proud to call myself a Hofstra University graduate, I have respectfully requested that my name be removed from these mailing lists. Perhaps in fifteen years, when I finish paying off the loans that I was forced to take out to pay for my education, I’ll make a contribution to the University. However, if I continue to receive the aforementioned letters, I can promise that my goodwill toward the University will be radically diminished.
