Over the past two weeks, information regarding the situation that happened in the Student Government Association office has gotten blown out of proportion, and I would like to clarify my involvement.
What happened in the SGA office is as follows: letters were carved into the desk and then further engraved by marker, a painted portrait of a former president and former vice president was ripped, a picture of myself and the former president was torn, information hanging on the door was ripped down and several cabinet members’ pictures were removed from a glass-enclosed bulletin board outside the office.
I have taken responsibility solely for my actions: the ripping of the painted portrait of the former president and former vice president. I did in fact tear the picture of myself and the former President, but that was my own property, as was my cabinet picture that was hanging, which I removed and now possess in my own room.
I do not want people to think I have not confessed to what I have done. These actions are going through the proper channels, and I am cooperating fully with the situation. As far as the others involved, I leave it to them to come forward to confess.
Furthermore, to clarify to the public, two people have been associated with this incident, Kate Legnetti and Brent Weitzberg, neither of whom had any participation in the incident, nor did they have any knowledge of this occurrence.
As a student leader, I acknowledge I have done something wrong, and I have physically apologized to the person whose property has been damaged. I took responsibility for my actions not even 12 hours after the event happened, and I have never denied what I have done.
I encourage anyone with questions to discuss it with me, and I will continue to be open as I have been these past two weeks.
Sincerely,
Jared Berry
