“I don’t really know, I think I just kind of dress ridiculously,” Sam tells me as he looks absentmindedly up at the sky, “I dressed this way in kindergarten. Basically, I dress the same way my parents would have dressed me in kindergarten.” Although it has been a quite while since Sam has traded in his no-frills childhood clothes accustomed to the spills of finger paint and nose picking brats, he still wears his adult wardrobe like the primary colors of his younger, more carefree years.
“So does music influence you?” I ask Sam.
“No,” Sam tells me, “But I do like a close cut to show off my athletic form.”
“Well then. Tell me about your jacket.” I point to Sam’s color palette windbreaker.
“This? I needed a jacket that would be suitable in the current temperature range. It could keep me warm when it is cold, but cool if it is warm,” Sam grins and continues, “It matches a suitcase I have but I would not wear it at the same time.”
“So would you say your parents influence you?”
“Yeah, my dad is a well dressed man. He was in his 20s in the 80s. He is from Australia and Australia loves colorful things.”
“You remind me of a Twister mat.”
“I never played Twister,” Sam replies as I get ready to leave, “But Oshkosh B’Gosh, that influences the way I dress.”
