If there’s one thing Sweta Govani doesn’t have, it’s free time. “My friends make fun of me because I’m that girl who’s always doing some form of work every minute I have. I love being busy,” she says enthusiastically.
Govani, a sophomore, is a marketing major with a minor in print journalism and psychology. She currently holds a 3.83 GPA and is in Honors College. She works at the media Library in Memorial Hall at the University. Her goal is to work in the marketing department of Cosmopolitan magazine after she graduates.
If that isn’t enough, Govani is also a member of the University’s Chapter of the American Marketing Association (HAMA), InformNation and South Asian Student Association (SASA). She is the Vice President and staff writer of InformNation, a newsletter that started just last semester. She also took part in the Kodak Gallery case competition in New Orleans for HAMA this spring. As for SASA, “I’m a member of SASA simply to stay close to my Indian roots,” she said.
This summer, while other students may be hanging out at the beach, Govani will be in Thailand for four weeks to volunteer through an organization called International Student Volunteers. After she is done with volunteering she plans to take a trip back home to Mumbai, India to spend time with family and friends. To add to her busy schedule, in July she plans to study abroad in Paris for a month through the University.
One day she hopes to go back to India to start a non-profit organization business to employ less fortunate people. She hopes to use the benefits to build houses for them and their education. “I truly believe in living your life to the fullest. I try to fill up my schedule because I want to do as much as I can with the time I have,” she said.
Although her life is already hectic, Govani still wants more to explore, “I really just want to see the world. This summer is only a beginning but I hope to see every continent,” she said, laughing, “Okay and maybe the moon.”
