How would you describe your collection?
For this series of paintings, I was mainly working from images that I took-all of them happened to be old images that I found and liked-even though the paintings didn’t end up looking a thing like their counterpart.
How did you get started as an artist?
I was always into art, even as a little kid. I’d just sit and draw stuff-our living room, my sister, whatever would stand still. Then in high school, I took art and photo for all of my electives. When I came to Hofstra, I was an Art Education major because I knew I wanted to do something art related, but after taking a few art classes, I realized that I wanted to take as many as possible, so I changed majors.
What are your inspirations?
Right now, I’m inspired by photographs and the lighting at night. I love the feeling I get when I walk or drive down a street at night and the sky is a purpley-black color and there’s just these street lights popping. And I love the red lights on towers: how they blink and fade, blink and fade.
What activities are you involved in?
I’m the Art Manager for Nonsense Humor Magazine and the Secretary for FORM gallery. I also have an internship with Lyons Wier Gallery in the city.
What do you hope to do after graduation? Will art continue to be a big part of your life?
When I graduate, I mostly just want to be able to pay the bills. I know that I’ll go to grad school, but not for a few years.
