Whether you’re in the mood for a nice evening out, want a worthwhile meal or are planning a date with a significant other, Houston’s is the place to be.
Anyone who has ever been to Roosevelt Field Mall, located just minutes from the University, may be familiar with Houston’s. The restaurant, known for its steaks and other Americanized food, is located at the front entrance of the mall, between Modells and the movie theater.
Despite an image among some of it being too “fancy” or “expensive,” Houston’s serves a very varied clientele. Diners include families with small children, businessmen stopping in for an after-work cocktail, couples on dates, and even stragglers looking for a hot meal after a long day of shopping at the mall.
The menu combines American cuisines such as burgers and steaks with a wide variety of other delectable goodies. Houston’s is famous for its “Chicago Style Spinach Dip,” served with salsa, sour cream and a bowl of perfectly salted tortilla chips for dipping. The starter is a must-have.
For those watching their weight, Houston’s offers a variety of salads, one of which, the “Grilled Chicken Salad,” comes with tortilla chips tossed in a honey lime vinaigrette dressing and topped with a peanut sauce.
The secret to their flawlessly grilled meats, such as the “Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs” and the “Niman Ranch Pork Chop,” is the “live” oak wood grill they’re cooked on. The grill adds a smoked flavor unique to Houston’s.
Consistent high-quality food has made Houston’s very popular, so be sure to make a reservation if dining late in the evening. For those 21 years of age and older, Houston’s serves a wide array of enjoyable cocktails and allows patrons the convenience of grabbing a quick meal right at the bar.
The service is superb, with the whole wait staff working together to provide an enjoyable experience for every customer. The waiters, adorned in black uniforms, immediately greet you kindly, asking, “Would you like a beverage?”
The elevated language suits the atmosphere of the dining room, where every table is lit by candlelight and accompanied by mahogany cushioned booths.
Make sure to save room for dessert. You can enjoy a cappuccino or macchiato while indulging in one of their two scrumptious desserts: “The Warm Five Nut Brownie” or “The Apple Walnut Cobbler.”
For the quality of food you’re receiving, the estimated $30 to $40 per person is a reasonable price. With Houston’s excellent service and unforgettable barbeque flavor in every bite you take, it’s worth every penny. Bon Appétit!
