How would you describe your collection and what the pieces on display include?
The gallery features over 40 of my digital cartoons and graphics. The entire art show is based on “On The Rocks,” which was a series of comedy sketches by Louis Aquiler and Chris d’Amato that was performed here at Hofstra over the past two years. Each cartoon is based on a real person who performed in the show.
How did you get started as an artist?
I’ve been drawing my whole life and got into digital computer graphics about five years ago in order to create artwork for the computer pinball games I designed.
What are your inspirations?
I’m inspired mostly by background artwork, that is, art and music that accompanies a greater piece of work, such as a movie or game. I am constantly being inspired by the art and sound of old video games and pinball machines.
What activities are you involved in on and off campus?
I’ve been pretty busy lately. I am the motion graphic and sound designer for Design 15, the introductory engineering course at Hofstra taught by the ever-creative Dr. Mauro Caputi. I have also written music for a handful of theatrical productions at Hofstra, including “The Skin of Our Teeth.” And finally, I’ve been appearing regularly as a cast member of Hofstra TV’s “Thursday Nite Live.”
What do you hope to do after graduation? Will art continue to be a big part of your life?
Try not to laugh when I say this, but I want to design slot machines. A lot of art, music and creativity go into the production of today’s gaming devices, and I can’t think of a better avenue to stretch the boundaries of my abilities.
