As the spring semester rolls around, senioritis usually affects every aspect of a senior’s life. For Jenn Soehngen, however, the season only encourages her to put 100 percent (and sometimes beyond) into her incredibly busy schedule without fail. And she does it with a huge smile on her face.
A sociology major with a minor in speech-language hearing sciences, Soehngen works as a Senior Resident Assistant in Estabrook Hall and as an undergraduate assistant in the Parent & Family Programs Office.
“After my first year, I wanted to be a good and valuable resource at [the University] for all students, as I found that was hard to find,” says Soehngen. “I wanted to be a role model for others.”
Recently, Soehngen helped run a successful Siblings Day for the Parent & Family Programs Office. She also helps leads the Pep Band as a captain, plays the trumpet, is involved in the Residential Student Association (RSA), is the Constabrook Hall Council co-advisor and is part of various other committees on campus.
Despite her extracurricular activities, she still finds time to be with the people she cares most about. If not reading or relaxing with a cup of Starbucks coffee, Soehngen can be found watching chick flicks with her girl friends or going out with her staff.
After graduation, she hopes to attend graduate school at the University. Soehngen wants to work with children who are either deaf or hard of hearing. However, after years of experience with Residential Programs, she said that she will keep her eyes open for the possibility of working with Student Affairs.
Regardless of where the road will take her in the near future, Soehngen will certainly miss “the atmosphere and all the people I have met and grown to love,” and she will continue to strive to be a role model for everyone she meets.
