If there’s one thing Colin Culligan has learned at Hofstra, it is to make the most of every day. Culligan, a junior, finds his days filled with classes, work and an internship, in addition to the duties of being a Resident Assistant. Luckily for him, he has the time to pursue both of his passions: television and drama.
With double majors in television/film and drama, Culligan takes advantage of the opportunities to get involved. He currently serves as the publicity chairperson on the E-Board for Masquerade, an on-campus club that produces two musicals every year and raises money for charity. As a part of his job, he creates fliers for their events.
Culligan has worked on five shows and performed in “The Skin of Our Teeth” last year. Unfortunately, he won’t be auditioning for any plays this semester due to his hectic schedule. “With my internship, taking classes and working, I don’t have a lot of time for rehearsals,” says Culligan.
Instead, he is focusing on his internship in the city for BBC Worldwide. Currently, he is working on the show “Moving Up,” which airs on TLC. He’s the first intern at the company, which gives him the chance to get more involved.
“I hope the internship will turn into an-entry level position,” says Culligan. “And [that] I [will] get to work with something on the creative side of production and developing a show.”
A full course load and an internship may be plenty for most students, but Culligan has the capacity for more. He interns on Mondays and Fridays, has classes all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, works on campus as a Pride Guide for Admissions on Wednesdays and remains committed to his responsibilities as an RA in Suffolk. This is his second year as an RA, and next year he hopes to make it his third.
In his free time, he models in the city with an agency he joined with this summer. And his philosophy on life? “I just like to stay with the flow of things, be happy, stay true to my values and be a good person.”
