If there is a silver lining surrounding the dark cloud that is the men’s basketball two game losing streak, it is that at least this game was over from the get-go. Hated Hofstra rival George Mason University sprung to a 10-2 lead and never looked back, drilling the Pride on the way to a 74-58 victory.
Led by guard John Vaughan and forward Darryl Monroe, the Patriots put the hurting on Hofstra, whose shooting struggles continued, as their two leading scorers went 9-30 for and 2-12 from 3-point range.
The Pride found itself down by as many as 34 points at one point during the second half, outscored by 14 points in the paint, and unable to buy a basket throughout the game from downtown, shooting an absolutely putrid 19% from the region on an unconscionable 21 shots, with Vines going 2-10.
George Mason, on the other hand, shot 49% from the field, and 33.3% from three- point range, proving the axiom that he who shoots the best wins.
The Pride looks to bounce back against Towson University this Saturday at Noon at the David S. Mack Sports Arena.
