Over the next few months, you will see several changes begin to occur throughout The Chronicle. Our editorial staff has made several decisions in order to redesign the paper aesthetically, as well as to modify the content and stories that we provide the campus. In the past, the paper has lacked focus and direction to on-campus news and events that are important to University students and faculty.
Along with finding these stories, we have made it our goal to keep the student body and faculty more thoroughly informed and in doing so, we have made a decision to cover the campus through daily updates on our Web site, www.hofstrachronicle.com. These changes have not yet taken effect but we are in the process of a Web site redesign that will be more user-friendly and be updated on a daily basis. We are hoping to have the final project finished within the next few weeks and start updating it daily.
The paper version of The Chronicle is striving to present more timely content and stories that cannot be covered fully by simply clicking on the campus calendar. We will strive to present all events on our Web site while covering “bigger” events in greater detail and in print. We are hoping that many members of the University community will visit our Web site on a daily basis in an effort to expand the reach and effectiveness of our media organization.
As part of this overhaul, we are also looking to add video and audio programming and reporting to our Web site. We hope these endeavors is to not only give students an outlet for their work that will reach across the campus and into the vast sea of the Internet but also expand the way you will receive University news and information. In the modern world, information moves faster and in more ways than a simple print edition can handle. We are hoping to ride the wave into the future and become a true multi-organization.
We thank you in advance for your patience and support as we move into the future of journalism and global information trading. We will be sure to keep you informed about online updates and will announce the final launch of our new Web site upon completion. If anyone is interested in becoming a part of our team as we move into the future, please feel free to stop in our office room 203 of the Student Center or e-mail our editor-in-chief, Stephen Cooney, at [email protected].
Thank you,
The Chronicle Editorial Staff
