SENIOR HONOR
Pride captain Sara Gonzalez has been selected to play in the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I North/South Senior All-Star game. Gonzalez will represent the North team for the competition, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 20 on the Wake Forest University campus in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Gonzalez is one of seven CAA seniors selected to play in the game, but will be the only CAA representative on the North team. Gonzalez is the first Pride player selected to the game since the 2001 season, in which two seniors, Allison Barnett and Jennifer Swett, were selected. Currently, Gonzalez has a career-best 17 points, giving her 40 points for her three-year Pride career.
OVERTIME WOES
The Pride loss to Delaware last Friday marked the fourth time this season the Pride has gone to overtime. Unfortunately for the young squad, the loss to Delaware was the third straight overtime game the Pride has lost. All three of the overtime losses (Syracuse, Michigan State and Delaware) have come to teams ranked in the top 20 nationally. This was the shortest overtime outing of the season for the Pride, as Delaware converted on a penalty corner less then two minutes into the first overtime.
DOUBLE-DIGITS FOR JANTZEN
Sophomore Doni-Melissa Jantzen became the first Pride player since 2002 to score double-digit goals for the season, as she netted her ninth and tenth goal this past weekend against Delaware and Towson, respectively. With her two goals, Jantzen is now third in the CAA in goals scored, and ranks in the top five for shots taken, points, and game-winning goals. Joining Jantzen atop the CAA is goaltender Jessica Cowperthwait, who ranks an impressive first in the conference in both saves and saves per game.
