Hofstra volleyball continued its homestand on Sunday, Oct. 24 with a match against Colonial Athletic Association opponent Towson.
The Pride would lose 0-3 to Towson. “We were very sloppy with serving and passing,” said head coach Kristina Hernandez. “That was definitely a problem.” Hofstra committed nine service errors and twenty-two attack errors in three sets against the Tigers.
Hofstra played from behind in the entire first set. Down by as many as eight points (12-20), the Pride fought back to bring the set within three points (21-24) but could not come from behind as Towson took the first set 25-22.
There were thirteen tie scores and six lead changes in the second set. The five kills from redshirt freshman Nikki Kinnier were not enough as Towson outlasted Hofstra in the second set by a score of 28-26 to go up 2-0.
“I told them to stop being so careless with the ball,” said Hernandez about the intermission between sets two and three. “And then it just got worse in the third set.”
After being down for the majority of the set Hofstra made an attempt for a comeback late in the third set, but this was put to a halt on a Hofstra service error followed by a Towson service ace and Towson won the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
“We’re trying to be consistent everyday and get the girls to understand the importance of winning,” Hernandez said. “We are definitely still trying to finish strong.”
Hofstra now has a 9-19 overall record and 2-7 record in CAA play and is still looking for a late push to make an attempt to climb up the CAA rankings. “We’ve got to get better,” said Hernandez. “We’re really young and a lot of these kids are coming back next year, so we have to keep on trying to find ways to win.”
The next game for the Pride is against Siena College on October 26 in the Physical Fitness Center.
