One thing is for sure– FOX is not shy about ending shows before they really get a chance. Unfortunately this may be the case for “Running Wilde.” The show, which follows, “Glee” and “Raising Hope,” has had declining viewership since the pilot episode. Every week it drops more and more, and it’s really a shame, because the show has promise. The show was ordered for thirteen episodes, which all should air. As for the show’s future, we’ll just have to wait and see.
The show features a few “Arrested Development” alums as part of the cast. Mitch Hurwitz is the co-creator/producer of the show, Will Arnett is the Star/Co-creator/producer of the show, and David Cross is also featured on the show.
“Arrested Development” was one of the most brilliant shows on television, so a lot is to be expected from this show. However instead of pure comedy, “Running Wilde” is a comedy mixed with a love story. It tells the tale of Steve Wilde, a rich man who never grew up because he never had to, and Emmy Kadubic, played by Keri Russell, his childhood sweetheart. Russell provides the perfect counterpart to Arnett.
Cross plays Emmy’s eco-terrorist boyfriend Andy, and his biggest rival is Wilde Oil, Steve’s family’s company. Arnett and Cross, provide the level of entertainment that they did in “Arrested Development.” The back and forth that has occurred between the two so far has been very entertaining.
Peter Serafinowicz adds to the mix as Steve’s friend Fa’ad Shaoulian. Fa’ad is also very wealthy which leaves him clueless to the real world, much like Steve. This has created some extremely funny situations, such as the two competing over certain things, like Fa’ad coming home with a tiny horse from vacation and Steve needing a tinier horse.
Another relationship on the show is that of Steve and Puddle, who is Emmy’s daughter. Steve plays games with her and she really seems to like Steve. It appears that the relationship will become similar to that of Jason Bateman and Michael Cera’s relationship on “Arrested Development.” If this is the case we are certainly in for a treat.
The show has the all the right pieces in place, it’s just a matter of getting people to watch it. The characters have terrific chemistry with each other. As the episodes move along, the characters will develop and story lines will move along. Hopefully the show will get the same chance on Fox.
