Melanie Rosner never thought that she would actually go to Africa. Yet somehow, she found herself overseas this past winter with the University’s study abroad program in Ghana.
“I lived out of my suitcase for two weeks and sometimes had no running water,” said the junior finance/entrepreneurship major, “It was so amazing. It was life changing.”
Back at campus, Rosner is not only Senior Resident Assistant of Nassau Hall, but is also the Rules Chair for Student Government and Comptroller for the Hofstra American Marketing Association (HAMA).
“I became SRA after I had been an RA for one year,” said Rosner. “I decided it was time to take my leadership to the next level. It really defines who I am at Hofstra.”
Rosner believes that the SRA position has provided her with a leadership role as well as a personal experience.
“The SRA role taught me about myself and other people. I really love doing things for other people and I really feel like I’m making a difference,” she said.
As chair of the Rules Committee for SGA, Rosner is in charge of overseeing clubs on campus, providing assistance to new clubs and correcting legislature.
HAMA, however, is an activity that she does solely for fun.
As a freshman, Rosner participated in several clubs and activities in order to find her passions. “When you put yourself out there, you’ll fall in love with something,” she said.
Off campus, Rosner uses her major skills as an intern at Bristol Financial Services. This summer she is planning on interning for Intermark Media.
Overall, Rosner believes that college and life experiences are what you make of them.
“You have to get involved—that’s how you make friends and where you find opportunities. At the end, you really realize and appreciate it.”
