After a solid showing in conference play all season long, the Colonial Athletic Association gave out postseason awards to two of Hofstra’s leading ladies.
Freshman forward Shante Evans earned All-CAA second team honors after a strong first season with the Pride. Evans was named the CAA Rookie of the Week three times this season leading the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She is the first player since Molly Sito in 1992-93 to lead the Pride in points scored and rebounding.
Senior center Jess Fuller was awarded All-CAA Defensive honors as she led the conference with 96 blocked shots this season. With Fuller protecting the rim, Hofstra was twenty-fifth in the nation in blocked shots. Fuller also averaged 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Head coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey applauded her award-winning duo. “We are very proud of Jess and Shante,” Kilburn-Steveskey said. “These awards were well deserved. Shante was second team All-CAA, which states she is one of the ten best players in the league and that is on point. She is only going to get better and better.”
Evans and Fuller were not the only members of the Pride to receive awards. Sophomore guards Candice Bellocchio and Nicole Capurso were named to the all-academic second team. Senior guard Sam Brigham, junior guard Aamira Terry and junior forward Isoken Uzamere also received all-academic honorable mentions.
Whether it is under the basket, or in the classroom, the Hofstra women’s basketball team excelled and Kilburn-Steveskey was “very proud.”
