After its win against no. 19 Brown, the Pride men’s lacrosse team is flying high into their next match against no. 7 Johns Hopkins University. JHU is coming off of a 10-11 overtime loss to Princeton, a loss that they want to erase from their memory.

With the big match up looming, head coach Seth Tierney is quick to downplay the hype. “The key to the game is going to be relaxed. It’s a huge game because it’s going to be the next game regardless of what name they have on their jersey,” Tierney said. 

Tierney is confident that if the Pride plays its style of game, good things are bound to happen. “Let’s just play the way we know how to play. Let’s play loose, let’s play hard, let’s play smart and let’s play Hofstra lacrosse and the scoreboard will reflect what goes on that night regardless of anything else,” said Tierney.

After a ten-goal performance from the Pride midfield against Brown, JHU will need to try and cut off Hofstra’s offsense not only from the midfielders, but also Hofstra’s “Ontario Onslaught,” junior attackers Jay Card and Jamie Lincoln.

Playing against JHU is always an experience for Tierney. The Hopkins alumnus and former assistant coach finds a place in his heart for this game. “It’s an important game to me,” he said. “A lot of the media hoopla of me being connected to that program is not necessarily in my mind, exciting anymore. I’m the coach of Hofstra, Dave Pietramala is the coach of Hopkins and we’re going to try and coach our teams the best we can to have a great opportunity on Saturday night.”

This game should be one of the best of the year and Tierney has a message for Pride fans, “Be loud, be part of the home field advantage and get ready for a very exciting game.”
