Members of a new pro-life club, Students for Life, voiced their views Monday at an information session and entered the mix of diverse groups at the University.
“[Students for Life] aims to promote pro-life causes in a positive fashion,” Chris Virga, social chair for the club, said. “We feel that life is a better choice.”
Virga said the group does not condemn abortion, but instead offers a positive alternative to mothers facing a difficult choice.
The club invited representatives from several pro-life organizations to help students form educated views about abortion. The Long Island Coalition for Life, Birthright and Feminists for Life, among others, distributed brochures and encouraged discussions about abortion topics.
University students expressed tolerance and support for the new group regardless of students’ personal views on abortion.
“[Students for Life] is a positive thing,” Eric Taylor, a freshman sociology major, said. “It lets people realize there are people that are still pro-life. It’s there for people that need that support.”
“Everyone should be able to have their own voice,” Rachel DiGregorio, a freshman business major, said.
The group is planning another event at the end of the fall semester, as well as other events in the future.
