The Pride softball team traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to take on the University of Texas, Louisiana State University and the University of Pittsburgh.

The first game of the weekend was against the no. 12 Longhorns of Texas and did not start on time due to a long rain delay. Junior Erin Wade took the mound for Hofstra and pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and five runs, striking out six. The Longhorns sent All-American Blaire Luna to the rubber and she pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just four hits. The Pride threatened in the third by loading the bases but was unable to get a run across and lost 5-0 in the weekend opener.

The Pride next took on host no. 23 LSU. Sophomore Olivia Galati started the game for the Pride and despite pitching well, was outdone by LSU’s Brittany Mack, who brought a perfect game into the seventh inning. The Pride got a runner to third in the top half of the eighth, but a diving defensive play stopped the runner from scoring. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, LSU was able to string together four straight singles, plating the only run of the game and winning this pitchers duel 1-0. Sophomore outfielder Tessa Ziemba and Galati were the only batters with hits in the game.

The final game for the Pride was against the University of Pittsburgh. Galati started her second straight game and took her second straight loss. Freshman Tori Rocha had Hofstra’s lone RBI for the weekend but it was not enough as Pittsburgh went on to win 3-1.

Hofstra’s record falls to 6-7 after four consecutive losses.
