Hofstra University students acknowledged Valentine’s Day by putting on the 3rd annual Pleasure Workshop and Sex Toy Raffle. The workshop took place Wednesday, Feb. 16thand encouraged students to come out and support a good cause. All proceeds are being donated to the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Woman of Haiti. V-day T-shirts and cookies were also sold to help raise money for this cause.
There were 14 campus clubs and organizations that donated time, money and an item for the raffle.
“Phi Delt (Phi Delta Theta) was approached by Tor Vullo about building the set for the Vagina Monologues and we happily agreed,” said Phi Delta Theta brother Matt Kantor. “Aside from the set construction, we also donated a sex toy for the raffle. It is for a great cause and we always jump at an opportunity to help the Hofstra Community.”
Most of the organizations that helped out with the Vagina Monologues helped by donating toys to The Pleasure Workshop and Sex Toy Raffle. Student organizations chose a toy to donate from NYC’s sex shop, Babeland. “Matt Kantor, NickMercorelli and Pat Greeley from Phi Delta Theta helped out with the show tremendously by building our set and LaurenLoverde has done all of the PR for the show. Their time has been greatly appreciated,” said Vagina Monologues actress Victoria Vullo.
The Pleasure Workshop and Sex Toy Raffle not only helped bring the Hofstra community together, it prepared Hofstra for The Vagina Monologues opening night. This is going to be Hofstra’s 6th annual show. Written by Eve Ensler, The VaginaMonologues are performed at various campuses all to raise money and awareness to stop violence against women.
This year, Kelsey Moran and Hillary James are directing a cast of 21 girls. Both girls were in the show last year and wanted to get more involved with V-day. “The monologues vary from light-hearted comedy, to sexual, to more serious issues regarding rape and discrimination,” Vullo explained. “I am performing The Flood, which is a comedic monologue about an older woman who has never had an orgasm because of a bad experience when she was a teenager.”
Tickets for the show cost $10 for Hofstra Students and $12 for general admission. The show dates are Feb. 24, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m.each night in the Monroe Lecture Hall. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
