She has only been in the game since 2008, but Lady Gaga has already become one of the most influential musicians in the industry. Gaga’s albums have brought a nostalgic dose of flamboyancy and impeccable musicality reminiscent of Madonna’s work. One of the most anticipated new albums of the year, “ARTPOP,” proves Gaga to be a true chameleon. She flawlessly blends her voice to a number of different beats.
Although many of the lyrics are similar to her last albums, Gaga’s delivery of the material has evolved. Her style of lyrics segues from risk taking to a more subtle fierceness. This can be heard on “Mary Jane Holland.”
“When I ignite the flame and put you in my mouth, the grass eats up my insides and my brunette starts to sprout.”
One of the most notable things off this album is the amount of electronic beats Gaga dabbles with. Tracks such as “Aura,” ”Venus,” the hit single “Applause” and my favorite off the album, the fast paced and catchy “Gypsy” all take advantage of the growing popularity of EDM style music.
Along with “Gypsy” two other tracks were real standouts. “Do What U Want” featuring R. Kelly and “Jewels N’ Drugs” featuring rappers T.I., Too Short and Twista caught me pleasantly by surprise.
“Do What U Want” is a throwback to the 80s style funk production. Gaga and R. Kelly turn out to be quite a duo on this record, complimenting each other’s style. This could very well be the next single off the album.
“Jewels N’ Drugs” has a very simple beat originally used by many Southern and New York based rappers. Gaga works her voice unbelievably to match the beat and flow of the song.
Gaga has proved time and time again that she can flourish in any style of music she attempts, because she has the talent to back it up. “ARTPOP” is an artistic and creative piece of work that all of her Little Monsters will enjoy.
