WOMEN’S BBALLThe Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) named Towson forward Tierra Jackson Player of the Week, as the senior forward led the Tigers past Wake Forest. Jackson scored a game-high 23 points in a 63-48 win. She also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and leads Towson in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game (PPG). The Tigers have won two in row, with the other win coming against conference rival Drexel. Sahsha Taylor of UNC-Wilmington was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
FIELD HOCKEYThe awards have kept on coming for Old Dominion. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named ODU coach Beth Anders as South Region Coach of the Year. Also, the ECAC named its all-star team and three CAA Players have made the roster.
MEN’S SOCCEREight CAA men’s soccer players were selected to the All-South Atlantic Region men’s soccer teams. First-team honors went to ODU senior forward Brian Cvilikas, JMU junior midfielder Kurt Morsink, ODU senior defender Trevor McEachron and George Mason senior defender Anthony Noreiga. Towson junior forward Sebastian Hanesel, ODU junior forward Edson Elcock and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) senior defender Veit Schaidinger were named to the second team.
SWIMMING & DIVINGGeorge Mason junior Tom Koucheravy earned his second straight Men’s Swimmer of the Week award. He competed at the U.S. Open this past weekend and closed out the weekend tied in 18th place with 31 points. He collected another top-10 finish as he placed sixth in the 1500-meter freestyle race in an Olympic Trial qualifying time of 15:49.21.On the women’s side, Drexel earned a fifth place finish at the Rutgers Invitational. Women’s Swimmer of the Week Kaitlin Slowey compiled a time of 2:08.15 in the 200 butterfly, which ranks her second on Drexel’s all-time list. She earned top finishes in the 200 IM and 400 IM, with a 200 IM time (2:10.85) being the third fastest time in Drexel history.
WRESTLINGDrexel’s Nick Kozar was named CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week, winning 11 of 12 matches in the 174 lb weight class. Kozar has an 8-0 record in dual meets, with four of those coming within the CAA. Doug Umbehauer of Rider University was named CAA Rookie of the Week. At the 174 lb weight class, he won at both the Keystone Classic at Penn and the Mat Town USA Invitational.
