The Pride golf teams both had successful weekends, with the women finishing tenth in the Rutgers Invitational and the men placing fifth in the Binghamton Invitational. Both fields were comprised of 17 teams.
On the women’s side, sophomores Andrea Neilson and Jacquie Faldetta led the team with two-day scores of +17 and +18 respectively. The young Pride team also received contributions from sophomore Victoria Snak (+25) and freshmen Amanda Bigger (+20) and Shannon Haselton (+36). The team’s total score of 648 narrowly edged out several competitors but fell well beyond the overall mark of the tournament winner, LIU Brooklyn (608).

Anna Kim (St. John’s) and Cristina Felip (LIU Brooklyn) finished tied for first with scores of +2.

The group’s combined score of +80 is their second best mark of the year. Faldetta in particular showed improvement over her past scores, a promising sign for the New York native.

The women end their fall season in a dual meet against St. Francis Brooklyn on Oct. 20 at the Muttontown Country Club in East Norwich, N.Y.

The men’s team continued their strong year, led by sophomore standout David Won, whose (-1) score over two days was good for fifth place overall.

Brandon Shin, who finished 18th overall with a +4 score, followed Won. Sean Cavanaugh, a sophomore who seems to improve every week, shot a total of a +6 on the par 72 course. Team captain David Mecca had an weak second day, shooting a +6 after putting up a +2 the first day. Jonathan Farber rounded out the Pride golfers with a total (+12).

Host team Binghamton won the tournament by shooting a 576, 16 strokes better than Hofstra. The Pride edged out Fairleigh Dickinson by a stroke to finish in the top five.

The Hofstra men play too late for this edition on Monday, Oct. 13 at the Jasper Shootout in Huntington.
