The Department of Public Safety recently implemented a simple, but effective, system for night entry to campus. The two security booths that regulate entry to campus at night now make quick access for students and improve the overall campus security. Lines of cars frequently would build up at both the Fulton Avenue and Oak Street entrances because visitors are required to sign-in, a frustrating delay for students who simply need only swipe their ID cards.
Now visitors are required to enter at the Fulton Avenue entrance while students with valid IDs can enter at either entrance and are assured a quick swipe-in at the Oak Street gate.
This is an enormous improvement to not only the campus traffic-flow, but also for general security of the campus. Public Safety officers are now able to screen visitors carefully without the concern of residents waiting to get back on campus. No more are the days of long lines on Friday and Saturday nights. Kudos to Public Safety for amending an antiquated and inefficient system.
Students should take advantage of the new system and use the Oak Street entrance as much as possible to help limit the line of cars on the Hempstead Turnpike awaiting access.
