WEEK 9 HONORS
Player of the Game: Pride WR Brian Wolman
Wolman had a season-high eight catches for 82 yards, which led Pride receivers on the day. Usually Clarkson’s fourth option, Wolman made a few first down receptions. On the season, the senior has 28 catches for 334 yards and one TD.
Goat of the game: Pride QB Anton Clarkson
Whenever a team loses a close game like this, the finger is often pointed at the QB. In this case, it is probably true. Clarkson accounted for five of the Pride’s eight turnovers, including a season-high four interceptions. Like he has done all season, the junior tried to do too much, resulting in numerous bad decisions.
“We’ve been telling you all year, if you’ve been paying attention, he tries to win football games himself. That’s a weakness of his,” head coach Joe Gardi said. “We talked all off-season about him not trying to win it himself and letting us help him and that’s what he tried to do.”
Play of the game: 14-yard TD pass from UNH QB Ricky Santos to WR David Ball
The play came early in the third quarter and put the Wildcats up, 21-13. Santos scrambled out of the pocket to the near sideline and hit Ball on a crossing pattern. Ball streaked past Pride CB Nick Altomare and slid to the turf to scoop up Santos’ low pass. It was the second time in the game the duo connected for a score.
INJURY REPORT
A couple of Pride players appear to be out for the season, as it is rumored that sophomore CB Kyle Arrington and senior punter Joe Nolan could both miss the remaining two games.
Arrington left this past Saturday’s game early in the third quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. It looks like he will sit out practice this week and miss Saturday’s game at Northeastern. The sophomore, who has been starting at CB the past few weeks, has 21 tackles on the season.
Nolan did not play this past Saturday in a game-time decision, forcing sophomore Chris Hanly to handle the punting duties. The senior has been the Pride’s punter since 2001, excluding the 2003 season when he sat out with an injury.
